3 images taken after the Feb 2011 earthquake. Christchurch Cathedral, Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament and the former Municipal Chambers building.
From a suite of photographs dealing with the aftermath of the February 22 earthquake. The images place small details alluding to the earthquake within the wider perspective of the city as a whole. As Dr Jessica Halliday explains in her accompanying essay: 'There's no heroism, no grand artefact; in these photographs architecture becomes an all-encompassing term embracing the incidental as well as the significant.' Veling's interest is not in the commonly captured tectonic drama of our ravaged city's drastically damaged structures and piles of rubble. Instead he quietly examines the everyday reality, 'softly bringing the wider urban, social and psychological context within the frame'.
