  • Heavy tarpaulins, from the Railway Dept., are used as coverage for foodstuffs landed on the beach at Caswell. This coverage will house foodstuff and material used by the Expedition during its stay. From here, equipment and food will be packed to Lake Marchant 2 miles from here, and then ferried by boats across the Lake and on up the Stillwater River for about 3 miles to the permanent base camp. Stores will be replenished by the "Alert" every time she makes a call, which after 29th January will be every fortnight.
